      本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛1. 'clothes'
Clothes /kləʊðz/ are things you wear, such as shirts, trousers, dresses, and coats.

I took off all my clothes.
      Be Careful!
There is no singular form of clothes. In formal English, you can talk about a garment, a piece of clothing, or an article of clothing, but in ordinary conversation, you usually name the piece of clothing you are talking about.

      2. 'clothing'
Clothing /'kləʊðɪŋ/ is the clothes people wear. You often use clothing to talk about particular types of clothes, for example winter clothing or warm clothing. Clothing is an uncountable noun. Don't talk about 'clothings' or 'a clothing'.

      Wear protective clothing.
Some locals offered food and clothing to the refugees.

      3. 'cloth'
Cloth /klɒθ/ is fabric such as wool or cotton that is used for making such things as clothes.

I cut up strips of cotton cloth.
The women wove cloth for a living.
When cloth is used like this, it is an uncountable noun.

A cloth is a piece of fabric used for cleaning or dusting. The plural form of cloth is cloths, not 'clothes'.

Clean with a soft cloth dipped in warm soapy water.
      Don't leave damp cloths in a cupboard.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

      Can you match this color?
What options do I have for fabric?
Can you repair a tear in leather?

      *Giving instructions to a tailor

The hem needs to be raised an inch.
The pants legs need to be let down.
The waist needs to be taken in an inch.
The waist needs to be let out.

      • Thank you!
Gladly I pass this part of exam.

I admit that I'm naughty. But still could not help laughing when I read the following:

I'm looking for something for my xxx.
        I don't know my size.
        Can you measure me?
        I need a size 34C.
        • Wow, size 34 C -- a super model
We learned the shopping part in high school. We also learned how to ask for the directions and store hours when we were very young.
        • Any time. You're a card, and you're good at it. :)
