Some said people come to this world to suffer, and that is why babies start their lives by crying out loud to protest. As we grow, we fight our way against numerous difficulties and hard feelings. And finally, we become old and powerless, heading our destination with regrets and pain. Are we really cursed?
Thank God, this is just one side of the coin. If you turn the coin around, you will see so much brightness and beauty of life. We have had our innocent childhood, playing joyously. We enjoy the greatness of love and friendship. We have the pleasure of building what we want to build. Only if we could stay that way!
Life is not a coin. You can not turn it around when you are having a hard time. You are riding a roller coaster. Sometimes you are at the top of the world, sometimes you are right at the bottom, and most of the time, you are somewhere in between. As a new immigrant, we find ourselves more low than high. The truth is, like those other bad words, life is a four-letter word. And life is all about each and every letter in it.
L: Learn. Learning is a life-long endeavor. When you live, you learn. If you want to live better, learn harder. Learning does not necessarily involve reading books, working with pens or pencils. You can learn anything, everywhere. How to find a job? How to cope with stress? How to communicate with others? Each and every challenge we face is a great opportunity for learning. Explore, experiment, reflect and share. One step at a time. Be patient.
I: Integrate. Integrate yourself with the environment. Do not isolate yourself. Be part of your environment. This is especially important to new immigrants. Some of us are overwhelmed by the gap between the environment and ourselves. Some of us think it is impossible for us to integrate with the society here. The reality is, you can not integrate if you do not integrate. Never shut the door in front of you, always try to open it. Embrace your new adventure.
F: Family and Friends. Do not lose focus. Life is not about money or personal success; it is about family and friends. They are what make life worth living. When you make your family and friends happy, you will feel the true happiness. Pamper your loved ones as much as you would be pampered; help your friends as much as you would be helped, with your whole heart. When you are juggling the demanding priorities, make sure do not let slip your family and friends. After all, they are what really matter.
E: Easy. Life is not all about hard working. Take it easy. From time to time, give yourself a break, reward and treat yourself. Nobody understands your needs better than yourself. You can just spend sometime doing nothing, or doing something you love, whatever makes you feel good. You deserve it. This will make life more enjoyable. When something goes wrong, again, take it easy. Do not blame yourself or others, because it will not do any good. Simply try to do it right next time. Give you and other people another chance.
